Upside Down

Life has been pretty hectic here, getting the last minute things finished in preparation for our trip to Norway. Tomorrow we're heading up to NYC. I'm going to be shooting a wedding with fellow photog Erica McDonald for most of the day. Sarah is going to check out some of the better tourist spots, all while trying to master big-city driving.

Sunday our flight leaves from JFK. We'll land in Oslo at 11:40 am local time!!!

If anyone can think of anything I've left off the To Do List, please email me asap.

Laurice and Alex - Engagement Photos

At 5pm this evening Sarah and I met up with Laurice and Alex by the Prince Street Cafe in downtown Lancaster. They'd driven up from Baltimore for their engagement photo session. Many thanks to them for walking the streets in the 30 degree weather!

I have to say that I'm personally extremely happy with how these turned out. (I should say, to give credit where it is due, that Sarah snapped the red door photo!) It will be a blast to work with Alex and Laurice on their wedding day this coming June.

Josh and Michele - Wieblab

These are our friends, Josh and Michele. They were the other couple from the workshop that I took last week. Michele had a good time trashing her dress in the VERY dusty warehouse. Both were good sports about posing for a few hours in the cold.

If any of our past clients are tired of storing their dresses, and are interested in creating some fantastic imagery (and clearing up storage space!) let us know and we can set up a similar shoot. Again, thanks to the Wiebners for setting this up!

Updates...

Winter is flying by. Sarah and I are really starting to get excited for April to come, and for the wedding season to start. With our upcoming trip to Norway (Less than 2 weeks!), we're working on sending out last album orders, and (gasp!) getting our taxes finished. To all of you that are still working on them or have yet to start, we feel your pain.

Here's Sarah sitting in our home office. We just got a new Canon point and shoot, and are snapping away a little more than usual. About 3 hours after this was taken, taxes were in full swing, and the floor littered with folders and receipts.

It's been snowy here... finally! Another point and shoot photo on the way to pick up our mail.

Finally, film came last night, most of which is intended for our Norway trip. I was giddy, and admittedly set up a shrine on the coffee table. I considered pulling out the Christmas lights, but decided not too. Too early...

WIEBLAB!!!

As I said in my previous post, I've had the pleasure of attending a workshop, hosted by our friends Joel and Rita Wiebner, of the photography duo, The Wiebners. These are some behind the scene shots while working on our shoot Monday.

The warehouse where we were shooting. The other couple that modeled for us were decked out in full wedding attire. The "brides" dress had a bit of a train, and ended up basically sweeping the very dusty floor. I'm not sure it was intended to be a "trash the dress" session, but it might as well have been!

Workshop Day 1

Monday was Day 1 of the Weiblab, a professional workshop hosted by good friends of ours and fellow shooters, Joel and Rita Weibner! Part of the day was spent shooting portraits of Joel's brother, Michael, and his striking bride-to-be Nicole. They braved the cold and the lenses of the 12 other shooters while being arranged and rearranged just to get the perfect shot. The above were a few samples of my short time with them.

Lancaster + Street Shooting

A favorite past-time of mine is walking the streets of my new home-town with my Leica, an all-manual-no-batteries-film-camera-that-I-love camera.It's liberating and inspiring to know that there are natural processes taking place creating a photograph...

Just Light and Gears.

Sarah recently went home to Germany to visit her mother, and as a result I had some spare time. I spent a great deal of time doing two things:

1. Spending time at the movie theater. I love cinema, and since it's awards season, there are many good flicks out. I've always been a buff, but being able to develop my own opinions about which movie should win is fun for me. I was an english major in college, and so revel in well written films.

2. Wandering the streets. Like I said above, I would walk around, mostly in the evening and night snapping photos... usually before heading to the theater. The below are a product. They were all shot on black and white film (Kodak Tri-X) on my Leica.

Oslo, Norway!!!

Today I got word that I’d been accepted to a photo workshop and forum held by the photography agency Magnum. This means that on the 2nd of March Sarah and I will head to Oslo, Norway for 10 days. FIVE of these days I’ll be working along with a few other photogs under the instruction of Magnum photographer, David Allen Harvey, on a yet-to-be-determined photo story.

I recently applied to this workshop, very much on a prayer that I’d get accepted. A portfolio review was required for admission, and so I feel honored to have been accepted. It will definitely be humbling to be shooting around so many of the worlds best photographers.

Once the workshop is over, resulting photos from the week’s projects will be exhibited in a group show at Litteraturhust, one of Northern Europe’s most prominent cultural centers. A multimedia slideshow will also be shown on Magnum In Motion site.

Sarah will roam the streets (and shops…) and will certainly snap some photos of her own.
